In 1999, St. John's decided to build Canterbury House, a residence for Senior Citizens. Consisting of 84 one-bedroom apartments, Canterbury House has residents who have lived their entire life in Staten Island, as well as residents who have come from Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and the Bronx -- not to mention New Jersey. But for St. John's, Canterbury House is more than just an apartment building; it's a community of friendship. Canterbury House residents are invited to every event and activity the church offers -- whether they are members of the parish or not, it makes no difference. And, many Canterbury House residents are more than happy to lend a hand on a particular project or just sit outside and enjoy visiting with those who happen by. With Canterbury House, St. John's is truly a 24/7 community of friends.
All of our facilities are wheelchair accesible and senior-friendly. A Community Room is available to residents and their family and friends for socialising. In addition, an outdoor patio is utilised as weather permits for socialising and game playing outdoors. An on-site laundry facilities makes it convenient to do your laundry. Convenient shopping is done by a short walk or a bus ride. Most of all, it is the gift of friendship that the residents share with each other that makes it a warm and welcoming place. Our building features two large elevators. The building has security cameras and a key-system to enter the building on both front and back doors. Outside visitors may use the intercom to communicate with their hosts.
Canterbury House is managed by the Wavecrest Management Team Ltd. The management office in the building is located in the B1 floors, and available for residents during its open hours. Residents can come to the management office for concerns with their residential services and office support. Residents may call the office at 718-981-6304 or come and visit when the office is open.
