The Members and Clergy of St. John’s Church welcome you!
Every journey of faith begins with a first step. Often that first step comes as we decide to look for a Christian community where the faith we hold can be nurtured and our experience of God can be deepened. St. John’s Church may be just the right place for you to discover the spiritual life you are seeking. Thank you for taking the time to consider the ways in which our historic, catholic, and apostolic church may be just what you need to take the next step in your spiritual life—and the next, and the next, and the next.
St. John’s is one of ten Episcopal Churches on Staten Island. We are part of the Episcopal Diocese of New York, which is part of the Episcopal Church. The Episcopal Church is also a part of the world-wide Anglican Communion, and our membership reflects the vitality of our international connection with Anglicans from Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, India, and nearly every part of the world worshiping and serving alongside lifelong Staten Islanders.
We are a catholic church, embracing the traditional view of the creeds, the ministry of bishops, priests, and deacons, and the sacraments. These have been the hallmarks of the Christian faith since apostolic times.
Who we are
- We deeply value and incorporate the intellectual renewal and freedom that are part of our Reformation heritage dating from the sixteenth century.
- We are an ecumenical church, proclaiming the essential teachings of Christ that have sustained people of faith of every language, culture, and race for 2,000 years.
- We base our authority on Scripture, the record of God’s continuing covenant with us; on tradition, the ways in which the Holy Spirit has guided the church in ages past; and on reason, the experience of God’s revelation to us today through the human mind and conscience.
